Colwell, Sara who passed away on 7/28/2015 at the age of 93


Sara E. "Sally" Colwell, 93, formerly of Greene, celebrated homegoing to her Heavenly Father on July 28, 2015, at her home in New Bern, NC. Sara was born November 4, 1921, in Springville, PA. She was predeceased by her parents, Porter and Ruth (Hinkley) Squier; a sister, M. Marie (Squier) Albeck of Forest Lake, PA; a brother, Verdon "Bill" Squier, of Springville, PA, and a nephew. Sally is survived by her sister-in-law, Barbara Squier, and many loving nieces and nephews, and grandnieces and nephews, of whom she was extremely proud. Sally served as a nurse with the U.S. Navy for two years during World War II, and during the Korean Conflict. She was a member of the Naval Reserves, retiring with the rank of commander in 1981 after 30 years of active and reserve duty. Sally attended Columbia University, earning a bachelor's degree in nursing and a master's degree in education and teaching. She was a school nurse teacher in the Chenango Valley School District in New York State, retiring in 1977. Sally is remembered for her compassionate heart, inquisitive mind, and her gifts of listening to and encouraging others. Sally loved dolls and enjoyed sharing that love with others. A service of internment will be held on August 9 at 10 a.m. at Nicholson Cemetery in Nicholson, PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Nicholson Cemetery, Harding Avenue, Nicholson, PA 18848 or to Samaritan's Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.
