Campbell, Joanne D. who passed away on 4/28/2010 at the age of 89
JOANNE D. CAMPBELL, born November 3, 1920 in New York, N.Y. was the
adopted daughter of Henry and Regina Teller. Joanne passed away
Wednesday, April 28, 2010 after a short illness. Joanne grew up in
Lewisville, Kentucky and Chicago, Illinois. She joined the U.S. Navy in
WWII, became a Navy Nurse, and served stateside for the duration of the
war. After the war, she married J.D. Campbell, moved to Texas and became
an Executive Secretary to the Chief of City of Houston Police
Department. Subsequently, she extended her secretarial career to the
President of Gulf & Western Industries, the manager of the Warwick
Hotel/Warwick Club and, the Chairman of the Harris County Bail Bond
Board (Sheriff). She later became Director of Provisions for the Harris
County Sheriff's department and held the rank of Sergeant in the Harris
County Sheriff's Reserves. Afterwards, she became the Social/Catering
Director for Pecan Grove Plantation Country Club and ended her work
career with the City of Houston Department of Health and Human Services,
Environmental Health Division, Bureau of Occupational health and
Radiation Control. Joanne was the beloved mother of daughter Laura Watts
Medina and son Jerry D. Campbell Jr; grandchildren, Robert W. Watts,
Amy K. Watts Donnelly, Jonathan C. Watts, Daniel P. Watts, Sara E.
Watts, Jami A. Campbell Fischer, Zachary P. Campbell and Wendi A.
Campbell; great-grandchildren, Charles W. Watts, Nicholas R. Watts,
Morgan E. Donnelly, Katherine R. Donnelly, Alexa G. Donnelly, Ethan J.
Watts, Averi A. Fischer, Hali A. Fischer, Meri E.K. Fischer, Austin R.
Campbell, Starlyn A. Farriell and best friends, Willene Hicks and Marcie
Evans. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. on Monday, May
3, 2010 at American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Dr.
Service at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 and burial in Veterans
Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be
made to Houston Hospice or Sierra Club.
