Cooney, Mary who passed away on 3/30/2016 at the age of 89
Mary K. (Cordingley) Cooney, R.N., 89, of Chelmsford, passed away
Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at Lowell General Hospital, Saints Campus,
after a brief illness. She was the widow of the late Gerald Cooney who
died in 1972.
A daughter of the late John F. and the late Anna F.
(Finnerty) Cordingley, she was born May 12, 1926, in Lowell, attended
the local schools, and graduated from Lowell High School, Class of 1943,
and attended St. John's School of Nursing and attained her Bachelors
Degree in Nursing from Boston College in 1961.
Mrs. Cooney served
with the United States Navy Nurse Corp from 1951 through 1967 during
the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged as a Lt. Commander.
Mary worked as a Registered Nurse for the former St. John's Hospital for more than fifteen years prior to her retirement.
She
made her home in the Belvidere Section of the City for many years
before residing in Chelmsford, and was a communicant of Immaculate
Conception Church. Mary had many passions in life, however spending time
with her children and especially her grandchildren is what brought her
the most happiness. She also enjoyed going to Maine for weekends away
with her friends, "The Golden Girls". She was a member of the Immaculate
Conception Women's Guild, St. John's Hospital Nurses Alumni, Boston
College Alumni, and the National Navy Nurse Corps. Association.
She
is survived by her children, Mary Anne Miller and her husband, Gary, of
Alta Loma, CA, Katherine E. Beaulieu and her husband, Donald, of
Lowell, and Kara J. Britton and her husband, Kevin, of Wayland; her five
grandchildren, Matthew G. Miller of Glendale, AZ, Caroline E. Miller of
Alta Loma, CA, Kristen D. Miller of Eau Claire, WI, Joseph P. Beaulieu
of Lowell, and Maggie E. Britton of Wayland; her sister, Ann "Nancy"
Murphy, of Lowell; her sisters-in-law, Ann Grady and her husband, Frank,
of Lowell, and Rosemary Georges and her husband, Paul, of Bradenton,
FL; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also the sister of the late Jack Cordingley and the late Robert Cordingley.
