Curtiss, Florence who passed away on 8/8/2015 at the age of 93

Curtiss, Florence M. age 93, of Augusta passed away peacefully on Saturday evening, August 8, 2015 at Borgess Gardens, Kalamazoo. She was born in Flushing, Ohio on June 7, 1922, the loving daughter of John W. and Sara B. (Anderson) Evans and faithfully served her country as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy Nurse Corps from 1943 to 1946. Florence graduated from Ohio State University with a BS in Nursing Education and served as an instructor with the Battle Creek VA Hospital for more than 28 years. Florence married the "Love of Her Life", John S. Curtiss in Shadyside, Ohio on December 4, 1949; he sadly preceded her in death on April 6, 2005. "How can I say what a blessing my friends and family have been to me, Thank You! I am so proud of my daughter and sons." She is survived by her children, Sandra (Marshall "Butch") Foster of Augusta, Philip (Kath) Curtiss of Richland, and Alan Curtiss of Battle Creek; grandchildren, Tracie (Kenny) Sexton, Duffy (Chris) Rogers, and great-grandchildren, Emmalynn, Abbigaille Florence, Amelia & Carter Sexton, and Anela Rogers. Florence was an active member of the Augusta Fellowship United Methodist Church and United Methodist Woman, serving as the organist and pianist at the church for more than 20 years. She was also a member of the Flushing, Ohio Chapter O.E.S., the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and has served as a board member at the Laurels of Galesburg, the Battle Creek Area Community Federal Credit Union, and was a chairman of the committee that built the McKay Memorial Library in Augusta and served on the board for more than 20 years. She enjoyed quilting, playing bridge and puzzles. The family will receive friends 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Augusta Chapel. A memorial service to celebrate Florence's life will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 13, 2015 at the Augusta Fellowship United Methodist Church. Interment with full military honors will follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
