In Memory Of

Chilton-Jones, Margaret Ann who passed away on 2/21/2019 at the age of 94

Margaret Ann Jones ObituaryMargaret Ann Chilton-Jones, our beloved mother, grandmother and wife to Tom, passed away to her eternal home Feb. 21, 2019. She was just shy of 95 years old. Her life spanned a century.

She is survived by her husband, Chester Thomas "Tom" Jones; and three daughters; seven grandchildren; and one granddaughter.

Margaret was born in the small town of Murphysboro, in 1924, the second daughter to Edith A. Bost and A. B. Chilton. She had a lifelong friendship with her older sister, Elizabeth (Betty Reiman), who was five years older. While growing up, Margaret was actively involved in church, community life and loved visiting her numerous relatives on their nearby farm. After high school she ventured out of her small hometown and attended DePaul Hospital RN nursing program in St. Louis. Margaret worked at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis for a few years, then decided to move out to Santa Barbara, California, where she worked at Cottage Hospital. She enjoyed sunbathing, making new friends and dating.

After some years she joined the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Camp LeJeune, North Carolina. There she met her husband Tom, a dashing Marine Corps officer who was also stationed there. They married in 1954 and started a family. They lived in many states including Hawaii. She returned to Nursing when the girls were older. She and Tom (Colonel by then) retired in Oceanside, California. She continued to work as a nurse for several years. They loved traveling to other countries and meeting interesting people.

In the family's words, "We are so enriched by her hospitality to family and friends over the years. She kept the family together. She inspired hard work, moral excellence and financial stability. We will think of her sitting out on the sunny patio drinking tea with us. We will miss her sunny smile but are comforted knowing she is in the sunshine of the Lord's presence and we will see her again."
