Deboer, Gloria D. who passed away on 2/14/2015 at the age of 80

South Kingstown - Gloria D. DeBoer, R.N., 80, formerly of Noel Court, died Saturday, February 14, 2015 at Scalabrini Villa Health Care in North Kingstown where she had resided for the past year. She was the wife of the late Johan W. DeBoer.

Born in Nampa, ID, the daughter of the late Richard W. and Lola (Smith) Hamilton, she lived in North Kingstown, moving to South Kingstown in 1990. She was a diploma nurse graduate of Beth El School of Nursing, Colorado Springs, CO, and served in the United States Navy Nurse Corp from 1956-1960. She worked at South County Hospital for ten years retiring in 2006.

Gloria loved to travel. She enjoyed walking on the beach, reading and especially spending time with her family. Gloria will be remembered as a woman who inspired others to go into nursing. She was a very compassionate nurse who would go out of her way for her patients. She worked nights and would often heat up blankets in the microwave to keep her patients warm at night so that they could sleep comfortably. She loved her family with all her heart and not only told them how much she loved them but also showed them. She was a second mother to many who came into her household, always willing to share a bed at her home or a home cooked meal.

She is survived by two daughters: Laura D. Factor & her husband Tom of North Kingstown, RI and Julie A. Jones & her husband Steve of Milton, VT; one son: John T. DeBoer & his wife Holly, currently stationed with the United States Navy in Naples, Italy; two brothers: William Hamilton of Eagle, ID and Robert Hamilton of Nampa, ID; seven grandchildren: Cathrine (DeBoer) Johnson and her husband Jeremy; Michael, Daniel and Samuel DeBoer; and James, Jackson and Shelby Factor and three great granddaughters: Victoria, Ava and Emma Johnson. She was predeceased by her brother James F. Hamilton.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2014 at 9:30 am at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick. Calling hours will be held prior to the service from 8:30 - 9:30. Burial with military honors will be in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter.

In lieu of flowers, Gloria would want you to "do something nice for someone". Should friends desire, donations in her memory may be made to Gentiva Hospice, 2374 Post Road, Suite 206, Warwick, RI 02886 or to Scalabrini Villa Health Care Center, 860 North Quidnessett Road, North Kingstown, RI 02852.
