Anderson, Marian who passed away on 11/19/2011 at the age of 86

Marian Gwenda Anderson, 86, Sturgis, died Saturday, November 19, 2011, at the Ft. Meade VA Hospital.

Marian was born September 3, 1925, at Fayette County, IA, to Willard and Iva (Haley) Butts. As a young girl, she moved with her parents to Hot Springs, SD, where she attended school.  Following graduation from high school, she attended nursing school in Alliance, NE. After completing her education she joined the United States Navy. She worked as a nurse in Naval Hospitals in Bremerton, WA, and Barstow, CA. Following her honorable discharge, she returned to South Dakota and was employed as a nurse at the VA hospital in Hot Springs.  She married Fred E. Anderson at Hot Springs on November 9, 1968. The couple lived in Sturgis and Marian worked as a nurse
at Fort Meade until her retirement in 1985. 

Marian was a member of the Sturgis VFW Auxiliary and the American Legion. She was also a member of the Good Sam camping club, the Treasure Club, Hospital Auxiliary, and a volunteer for the American Cancer Society.

Survivors include her husband, Fred Anderson, Sturgis; one sister, Frances Robison, Provo, UT; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Preceding her in death are her parents, one brother and one sister.
 
A memorial has been established to the VA Hospice at Ft. Meade.
