Bourne, Thelma May Larkin who passed away on 5/28/2014 at the age of 94
.Thelma Larkin Bourne, known to all as Betty, was born in Canada in 1920, the second of 3 children. When Betty was 2, her parents moved to Upland, CA, where she grew up. She earned her nursing degree, became a Registered Nurse and joined the Navy as a Navy nurse in 1944. She met her husband, Richard, when they were stationed on the same ship. Betty and Dick settled in San Diego in 1959, where they raised their two daughters. After years at home being a wonderful mother and wife, Betty renewed her nursing license in 1967 and worked at Mercy Hospital until she retired in 1984. She is remembered as a loving mom, grandma, aunt, and a great friend and neighbor. She was always there to listen to her family and friends, never judgmental and always supportive. She leaves a legacy of love and understanding. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Richard (Dick), in 1995. She is survived by her daughters, Susan and Nancy, her son-in-law Mike, 3 granddaughters and their husbands, and 4 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 7, 2014, at St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church, 6556 Park Ridge Blvd., San Diego, 92120. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, the Women in Military Service Memorial Foundation, or the American Lung Association.
